The Art of Noticing
Life can feel repetitive and often mundane. However, that is only because we choose for it to be that way. When you are a kid, the world is a new place full of interesting ideas and so much to learn. As we get older, for some reason, we feel like we know everything, we have our routine, and so things just stay the same. Recently, I purchased a book called The Art of Noticing by Rob Walker. This book encourages people to go out of their way to really take notice of all the things around. As an example, the stickers that are posted up all along the sides of the streets. The different kind of hats people are wearing, the security cameras that no one seems to notice. All of these things are small, intricate details that we might miss on the day-to-day because we are so busy thinking of ourselves.
The thing is, though, when we step outside of ourselves, the world becomes more interesting. There is more inspiration, more things to take note of and notice. The world can be exciting and fun again, it doesnt have to be boring. Looking at the world in different lights, from different perspectives in minute detail, really can change the way we see things and, more so, the way that we experience life. Getting caught up in yourself is so easy. It’s so easy to think about, like oh my god, what am I going to wear today. Or oh my god, me me me me me. But honestly, guys, trust me, we ourselves are so boring. Yes, we are all our own unique snowflakes, but we end up in the same pile. Put some spice into your life and explore. Talk to people, observe new things, and look closely at things that you might overlook.
