Creating with Intention
I just got off the phone with my mom who always brings me back down to earth. She kept commenting on the posts I was making on social media, “this isn’t you” she told me “be you”. To be honest, she is right. It’s not me. The get ready with me’s, the pierced lips straight to the selfie camera. None of it is me. Ive been playing a part, a facade, when it comes to online. There is a very real thing when it comes to conformity. You see it, everyone likes it and so you play the part. When the reality is, it is just that. We are playing the part. There is no realness in Social Media. As I looked at my work, some of it on my website. I realized that to was just basic conformity, something that I put on there that just added to my work but it wasn’t my work. It wasn’t apart of the message that I want to be apart of. As I sit here in the park, just having gotten off the phone with my mom and on my way to the masjid. Im making a commitment to myself, that the work that I participate in and cultivate will be work that revolves around the intention of pleasing God and no other. Of course we must make a living, but I do believe that God provides. I dont want to go down in history as just another creator that fell into the loop hole of what was popular at her time. I want to go down as an Artist who cultivated a sense of vision, of meaning and of purpose. These things are important to me, so my decisions will no longer be dictated by my financial standpoint. Rather the meaning that they implicate and implement on the world. I write this with a full heart. If I were to die today, or tomorrow… would I be happy with the message that I was leaving. These things I believe are very important to think about. It’s important to not fall into the standard. To be kind, live with grace because it’s the right thing to do (there is a difference between being kind and being a pushover, of course stand up for yourself). Dont let the world change you, the world is always going to be what it is. BE YOU because that is the most beautiful thing in the whole world. No one is perfect of course, I have made mistakes, you have made mistakes. Some are quite terrible and some turned out beautifully. The most important thing is that we keep pushing on. Do you want to be just another Robot in the machine? I dont. Let whats now go and let whats you flow #bars.
