Back into Freelancing, Reflections from a former Office PA

There is something so beautiful about not having to go to the same place every single day. Truly. I missed the chaotic day to day of Freelancing, figuring it out. Yes sometimes it’s stressful and maybe Im glamorizing it? Honestly though, the way I see it working as a freelancer you are able to put your time towards things you actually care about and actually want to get better at. Jut in the past 2-3 weeks, I have worked as a Director on a Commercial, A production coordinator on a TV Pilot and a one man band at a Live Concert. Am I making my 10k a month yet? No, not yet. Im making my way there though. Just in these past few months I have learned so much. How to be with people, how to speak with people, how fragile some Egos can be (including my own), how to humble yourself on the day to day because ultimately it’s not that deep. There really truly is so much to learn. Every crew is different and every crew requires something different, along with every job. Just this past weekend I was working as a “Production Coordinator” on a TV Pilot. Really though, I was handling everything… The Producing, the Directing, the AD’ing. In the moment it was a bit overwhelming. However taking a step back and looking at everything now I am proud that we were able to make something with very little instruction. And I think that this mentality is applicable to life. In life, no one will tell you (unless they are really nice) exactly what to do. Everyone’s experience is subjective. You have to build out your own blueprint of what it is that you want to do and why. Not everything is going to go exactly as you imagined and you have to let expectations go. The only person you should really expect a lot from is yourself. Im just ranting at this point but… yeah. This is the reality of the industry. Honestly though again Id rather be waking up every day doing something I love with my whole soul then entering an office and just sitting there. Because just sitting sucks. SO yeah. give me the jobs where I have to do a bunch of stuff because honestly I wouldn't want to do anything else.
