Harafish & Permanence
So randomly, I walked into my house and saw a book that made me want to read it. Harafish by the OG Naighoub Mahfouz (Genuinely love this man…I hope he also didn’t cheat on his wife). My sister was given a first edition copy by her teacher and naturally, I had to take it because nobody was reading it (a true crime). There is a line in the book that I posted about in my previous blog and that is the following:
“If permanence was possible, why would the seasons change?”
Such a simple yet beautiful line that truly made me reflect on the world because it’s just the truth. Everything in this life is temporary. Your family, your friends, your spouse. Everything. None of us belong to each other, none of us own each other. We are all each our own individual spirits. Of course…there is responsibility and a commitment (cough, cough) but I think thats different. The point is everything in this life comes and goes. So it's important to never get too attached to anything. And I think thats why it’s important for us to attach ourselves to something greater, something that we cant see: God. It’s really truly so beautiful how everything God created has a deeper meaning in this world. In the case of seasons, there is Sumer, Fall, Winter, Spring and even if you dont experience a vast change in the temperature maybe there is a change in the way that the air is or humidity or how often there is a Sand Storm. Things never stay the same. One day could be one thing and then the next day something else. We like to think that we know but the reality is that we really dont. Nothing is permenant ever. The only thing that really stays permanent is God. I wouldn’t consider myself incredibly religious, but I am deeply spiritual. I also wouldn’t say that I have a lot of knowledge, I am learning everyday. However, there is a connection between everything. A movement can affect how people function. Im getting off point, back to things being temporary. I guess the true meaning of what I am trying to say is… attach yourself to a bigger purpose. A bigger meaning. Not anything other than that. I can’t speak for all humans (and yet Im about to right now), but I dont think any human likes limitations (correct me if Im wrong). There are none. I think though that we do limit ourselves when we attach ourselves to things of this world. So think bigger, look beyond. Because if the seasons change, and nothing is permanent than maybe you should think in impermanence. Whats not here now, but maybe could come? What am I grateful for today that could leave tomorrow? If this was my last day on earth, how would I want it to end… who would I want to laugh with or travel with (even if it’s just down the street of your neighborhood)? How would I want to live? How would I think if I weren’t afraid? Things are bound to change my friend. So have fun with it and make the most of it. PEACE BROTHER.
